4/2: VENTURI, TEAM TEN AND SHOPPING
On Thursday February 4, we’ll dive into the sixties. To prepare, read Chapter 30 of Curtis, ‘Extension and critique in the 1960s’.
First we’ll talk about Robert Venturi’s book Complexity and contradiction in architecture, published in 1966. Have a look at their site: http://www.vsba.com/index.html
Second we’ll discuss Team Ten, the group of architects who got together to organise the tenth CIAM conference in 1956.
Third we’ll have a brief look at a different side of the sixties: the fast development of the shopping mall and the supermarket as new building types.
In 1974 Team Ten gathered in Aldo van Eycks garden in Loenen aan de Vecht. See http://www.team10online.org/index.html
