An overview of all the works in the Make A Forest Exhibition in Galerie Waalkens, Finsterwolde

Project 1 Gallery-in-Forest<\/span><\/strong>–in Gallery<\/strong>
\nThe original idea – to have the exhibition in the forest en to bring the forest inside the gallery \u00e2\u20ac\u201c had to be interpreted in a creative manner, as the weather did not allow an exhebition in the open air. This is how the idea of a \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcgallery-in-the-forest-in-gallery was born. A friendly neighbour donated as much bricks as needed. A mini replica of the gallery was built, on the exact scale of 1:5. Cut down trees from the forest nearby were and fixed around the mini-gallery. The trunks were placed with a severe density, so the forest forces decides the path for the visitor. This way the forest has power of the humans, and not the other way around. Inside the min-gallery there is a mini-exhibition with miniature drawings that show the working process of the 4 day project.<\/span><\/p>\n

Project 2: Past, Presence & Future<\/strong>
\nThis is a visual 3-D representation of the past, presence and future of the global forestation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Project 3: Wall Of Tree<\/strong>
\nA<\/span><\/span> fallen tree<\/span> was the starting point<\/span> of this project.<\/span> The tree<\/span> was<\/span> deconstructed<\/span> and<\/span> put<\/span> back together<\/span> on the wall<\/span>. The structure<\/span> of<\/span> brick wall<\/span> now form the<\/span> veins<\/span> of the tree<\/span>. Construction and<\/span> organic<\/span> form become one.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Project 4: Shadow on the Floor<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In order to bring the artificial<\/span><\/span> tree on<\/span> the wall<\/span> to life<\/span> was a<\/span> shadow was<\/span> needed<\/span>. This<\/span> was<\/span> created on<\/span> the floor with tape.<\/span> After removal of<\/span> the<\/span> tape, a<\/span> negative<\/span> of the<\/span> drawing emerged in the<\/span> dirt on<\/span> the floor<\/span>. During<\/span> the<\/span> exhibition the shadow will<\/span> fade <\/span>out because of the footsteps of the visitors, and thus<\/span> the life<\/span> of<\/span> the tree<\/span>…<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Project 5: Inside Outside<\/strong>
\nThe leaves<\/span><\/span> in the corner<\/span> of the gallery<\/span> is<\/span> a<\/span> continuation of<\/span> the structure of<\/span> the<\/span> trees outside<\/span>. Thus,<\/span> outside<\/span> is brought inside<\/span>, and vice versa<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Project 6: Golden Tree<\/strong>
\nThe beams<\/span><\/span> of the<\/span> gallery<\/span> are<\/span> lined<\/span> with gold<\/span>, thus creating the structure of a<\/span> tree.<\/span> The gold<\/span> highlights<\/span> the importance<\/span> of the tree<\/span> and our lives<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Project 7: Foto’s & Projectie<\/strong>
\nThe photos on<\/span><\/span> the stairway<\/span> represent<\/span> a<\/span> study<\/span> of similarities<\/span> between structures<\/span> in the human body<\/span> and trees<\/span>. The result is<\/span> shown<\/span> on<\/span> the<\/span> first<\/span> floor<\/span>. The photos<\/span> were taken<\/span> in the woods<\/span> right across from<\/span> the Gallery<\/span>, where trees<\/span> are<\/span> being cut down<\/span> to make way<\/span> for<\/span> the cows<\/span>. The<\/span> film<\/span> is projected<\/span> onto the dens tree trunks<\/span> made<\/span> from the same<\/span> idea.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Project 8: Food Design (at opening)<\/strong>
\nDuring the opening<\/span><\/span> of the exhibition, food<\/span> from<\/span> the immediate<\/span> area was<\/span> prepared and served.<\/span> The food was<\/span> smoked<\/span> on oak<\/span> wood from<\/span> the nearby<\/span> forest. The food design experiment with<\/span> apples<\/span>, walnuts<\/span>, and<\/span> potatoes from<\/span> the garden and<\/span> surrounding area was received well<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n
